The 10-minute website checklist

Six things to check today. No technical skills needed.

  1. Open it on your phone. Can you read it without zooming? Can you tap your phone number to call?
  2. Look for the padlock. Type your address without https://. Does the browser end up on the secure version?
  3. Check your hours and address. Do they match your Google Business Profile exactly?
  4. Scroll to the footer. An old copyright year makes the business look closed.
  5. Time it. If the homepage takes more than about three seconds on mobile data, people leave.
  6. Find the logins. Do you know who controls your domain, hosting and website accounts? If that person disappears, can you still get in?
